PREPARING FOR YOUR VISIT

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK HAS LED TO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO OUR PATIENT CARE ABILITIES AND PATIENT FLOW IN THE HOSPITAL.  WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO REVIEW OUR WEBSITE'S SECTION ON COVID-19 INFO BEFORE ATTENDING YOUR APPOINTMENT FOR THE MOST UP TO DATE DETAILS

An appointment has been made for you to see Dr. Alain Proulx – the time & date will be relayed to you by your referring doctor.  Please bring a list of all your current medications with you to the appointment (including “over the counter” preparations). During your assessment, eye drops MAY be instilled which will dilate your pupils for a few hours – this may make you very light sensitive & blur your near vision.  If you are planning on driving to your appointment, please bring a strong pair of sunglasses, or a friend or family member to drive you home.  Depending on whether any additional tests are scheduled, your appointment might take between 30 - 90 minutes.

Please note – due to the high volume of referrals we receive, patients who miss their initial consultation with us without prior & adequate notice will NOT be rescheduled

Our office is located in the internationally-renowned Ivey Eye Institute, a state of the art eye care facility serving all of Southwestern Ontario.  The Ivey Institute is part of St. Joseph's Health Care, one of the major teaching hospitals in London & is affiliated with the Schulich School of Medicine at the University of Western Ontario.

St. Joseph's Health Care is located at the corner of Richmond St. & Grosvenor St. (the address is 268 Grosvenor St).  The main entrance to the hospital is located on Grosvenor St., across from the hospital parking garage.  After entering the main entrance, you can simply follow the signs which will direct you to the Ivey Institute which is just a short way down the hallway on the RIGHT side.

Please note that parking facilities at SJHC are often over capacity, and for this reason finding adequate parking can sometimes be challenging.  Street parking can sometimes be found on the streets surrounding the hospital, but be aware that many spots only offer a maximum of one hour of metered parking.  If someone is accompanying you to your visit, it may be wise to have them drop you off at the hospital entrance & then proceed to finding parking.
