THE DAY OF YOUR SURGERY & WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE FOLLOWING DAYS
Having surgery of any kind can be a stressful experience for many. Cataract surgery at St. Joseph's Health Care is carried out in our state-of-the-art cataract suite. Since cataract surgery is the only type of surgery performed in this facility, our nurses & staff are highly trained in delivering the very best in surgical eye care. Every step of the day is carefully orchestrated to ensure the experience is comfortable & positive for you.

You will typically be asked to present about 60-90 minutes BEFORE your scheduled surgery time. After registering, you will undergo a health review with one of our nurses, and they will also prepare you for the surgery itself. The video below will walk you through a typical cataract surgery day so that you are fully aware of what to expect of your surgery experience.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE DAYS/WEEKS AFTER YOUR SURGERY
Many patients are confused as to what to expect in the days/weeks after surgery. Although improved vision is expected, this can take a few days & in some cases even a few weeks - this is normal. It is also normal for the eye to feel somewhat irritated & for it to be light-sensitive. Click on the excellent video below by Dr. John Legarreta where he reviews what to expect in the period of recovery after the operation, and when to contact your surgeon if problems do arise.
